My name is Dr CHIPASHA LUCHEMBE and I have been an educator and researcher and community activist for more than three decades on the continents of AFRICA, EUROPE and the AMERICAS. I have teaching experience as Professor of African & Latin American History in the Departments History at UCLA; UC Riverside; Cal Poly Pomona as well as Community College of San Bernardino College and Compton.
I am now managing AIMS an organization that seeks to develop links between Africa and America. I am also active working for the advancement of the Paul Robeson Community Center in Los Angeles and Perris Alliance for Community Empowerment in Riverside County. For the past three years I have been a member of the Board of the International Relations Council of the City of Riverside which runs the Sister City International Program. My primary objective on the Board is to assist KPFK to build a strong link between the local and international community of listeners and to increase or develop new listeners.
If elected I will work tirelessly to make KPFK an authentic voice of the global community. To achieve this objective I will constantly work for the development of new ways of reaching and hearing from the listeners For example will encourage greater KPFK public presence and participation in Community events of the underrepresented and letting them know of the valuable resource we have in KPFK and how it can also be their voice in what they do as a community. In other words we have to take KPFK to the Community. I think fund raising could be more pro-active than it has been so far by using the time between fundraising events as time for interacting with the listeners and potential listeners so that they are ready when the time comes to raise funds comes. This is already in place but I think it can be drastically improved upon and widely implemented.
