My name is John De Simio and my relationship with KPFK began in 1972 as a listener/sponsor and as a volunteer photographer for the Folio, the program guide during that era. Despite the station's various ideological and musical wanderings during the stormy passage of decades, I remain devoted to the station and its mission.
It is my fervent desire to encourage vigorous pursuit of the Mission Statement as a member of the Local Station Board. I have over thirty years experience in promoting movie and television projects, having served in various executive publicity positions at MGM/UA, 20th Century Fox and Castle Rock Entertainment, where I headed a department with a staff of over one dozen, responsible for creating and implementing film and television media promotion campaigns in the US, Canada and International markets.
I am currently Executive Vice President of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and serve as a producer on its annual Awards telecast, the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
Having spent so many years working in the mainstream, I am eager to use my experience and skills to promote my true passion, KPFK and the Pacifica mission.
I firmly believe that a respectful reflection of all viewpoints on any given matter can yield a consensus once a common goal has been identified. That has always been my practice in the past and I will continue to pursue this non- confrontational, forward-looking and result-oriented path as an LSB member.
KPFK is one of the most inspiring and precious cultural institutions in Southern California and it is the responsibility of the LSB to provide good governance and maintain the health of this invaluable monument to freedom so it can continue and expand its contribution to current and future listeners |
