  • Statement:

When I discovered KPFK in the early 70’s, I immediately recognized that it was a very special radio station. I have been a listener subscriber ever since. I saw then, and continue to see, how the Pacifica Mission differs from other Public Radio. Pacifica broadcasts voices and opinions that no one else would touch or allow on the air waves. I still remember the SLA tape incident when KPFK refused to turn over a tape recording from the SLA and answer questions how the station obtained the tape. The subsequent LAPD
raid on the station was broadcast live. Pacifica has consistency shown integrity and courage regarding public discussion of issues and ideas outside the mainstream. I am not only proud of this station, but committed to safeguarding its future.

I am running for the KPFK Local Station Board because I would like to help KPFK and Pacifica through this very difficult and challenging period. To use a phrase from a Bob Dylan classic, “the times they are a changin’” We are seeing too many organizations, public institutions and non-profits going out of business these days. We must not let this happen to Pacifica—it would be a tragedy for us all.

If elected, I have skills and talents that would be useful on the KPFK LSB. I have a background in computer software and hardware engineering for the last 20 plus years I have been providing computer expertise to KPFK for the last 6 years during the LSB Election Websites Ballot counting process, and afterwards, during the Election Website of LSB Officers and Committees. I have been a trusted member of the KPFK Election Websites Working Group, which has analyzed the STV voting methods used here at Pacifica, and made recommendations for improvements. I want to use my computer expertise and talents in helping the LSB perform its Governances Functions at KPFK. I am asking for Your Vote to be a Listener Member of the KPFK Local Station Board.
